Manuscript Guidelines

The following guidelines must be observed when submitting to the Texas School Health Association Newsletter Editorial Review Board. Many types of original manuscripts are suitable - practical, theoretical, technical, historical, controversial. Use simple, clear writing and stick to the topic. Philosophical justifications or historical backgrounds are not usually necessary. Write for the Newsletter's readers - school health educators, school nurses, health agency personnel, food service personnel, PE teachers, counselors, SHAC members,  and others concerned with Coordinated School Health in Texas. Please conform to the following:

  1. Type manuscripts, including quoted material and references, double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 inch white paper, with one inch margins, using 12 point Times font.

  2. Submit five complete copies of the manuscript on paper. Three copies go to reviewers; two remain on file. Authors who have articles accepted will be requested to provide a diskette at the time of acceptance. You will need to consult with the TSHA Office at (800) 410-TSHA (8742) (email: tsha_ed@hotmail.com) regarding how this data should be prepared on disk.

  3. An abstract of 200 words or less must accompany articles.

  4. On a separate sheet list title of article, author's name and affiliation, full address to which correspondence should be sent (phone, fax, and Internet number included), and any acknowledgment. This sheet will not be sent to reviewers.

  5. Keep length to no more than 6 typewritten pages. This includes abstract, text, tables, and references.

  6. Follow American Psychological Association (APA) 4th edition styles manual for narrative and references.

  7. Submit clear, sharp, well-composed photos with articles, if available and applicable. If you wish materials returned, indicate with name and address on back of each piece.

  8. Send manuscripts to Jamie Jones, PO Box 1227, Lampasas, TX 76550. Manuscripts will be acknowledged upon receipt. The review process normally takes 12 to 15 weeks. Manuscripts that are not accepted will be returned only if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is provided by the author at the time of submission.

  9. The Texas School Health Association Newsletter cannot consider any manuscript simultaneously considered for publication elsewhere. Articles to the Texas School Health Association Newsletter are a contribution to the profession and no remuneration can be made.
